Hot Tips for Internal Communicators
If you do not have a strategic communications plan, staff may feel demotivated and suspicious.  You
could spend a lot of time and money on internal communications, but still find staff uncommunicative or
feeding the rumor mill.  Think strategically and craft clear messages and make your internal
communications work for you.
Try these Snap Internal Communications Channels
Snap Staff Poll allows you to keep your finger on the pulse and test that your strategies are working
every step of the way.  It is an excellent way to measure progress against the ‘Knowledge, Attitude,
Action’ model. You can set up a Snap Staff Poll to target specific groups.  For example, you may just
want to assess progress within the ‘Resistance’ group.
Snap Staff Poll can also help you measure the effectiveness of managers as communicators. A short
poll to assess how well each employee understands key messages can be related back to individual
managers to provide a measure of the manager’s communications effectiveness.  What gets
measured usually gets focus and priority.
Snap Staff Discussion Forum: When staff feel unsure they may clam up or communicate in rumors
Snap Staff Discussion Forum allows staff to post or comment anonymously.  This way you get the
message. You could even name a forum ‘the rumor mill’ and encourage people to post any rumors
they’ve heard.
Snap Staff E-Mag: Collect feedback and act on it.  Include a section in Snap Staff E-Mag called
“Great feedback we are working with”. Highlight how constructive feedback received from staff is
being used to improve the business and change processes.
Repetition – All of the Snap tools provide a range of engaging ways to communicate and repeat key
messages without them becoming boring or seen as ‘wall paper’.
Customize messages – the Snap Content Management platform provides the means to customize and
target messages to specific employee groups in the organization.
